Objectives of the ISC3 half course :
- Feel at ease with basic mathematical/numerical tools for scientific computing and computational methods
- Use a numerical development environment: python into Jupyterlab
- Apply mathematical tools to some real applications and Engineering problems
- How to use python/numpy/matplotlib to solve the problems
- Learn the use of LaTeX typesetting system for technical mathematical writing (into notebooks)
- Be ready for the next ISC4 half-course (2nd trimester)
The half course unit (3 credits) is organized into 7 chapters :
- Chapter 1 : mathematical prerequisites, introduction to Jupyterlab and python/numpy
- Chapter 2 : polynomial interpolation
- Chapter 3 : linear approximation techniques
- Chapter 4 : solution of algebraic equations
- Chapter 5 : ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
- Chapter 6 : numerical schemes for differential equations
- Chapter 7 : differential algebraic equations (DAEs, if remainding time)
Weekly: 2h amphi course + 2h computer tutorial in Computer room (+1h personal work, notebook completed)
Evaluation: 50% tutorial works in UTC Computer room + 50% final examination (end of october)
