Objectives of the ISC3 half course :

  • Feel at ease with basic mathematical/numerical tools for scientific computing and computational methods
  • Use a numerical development environment: Scilab
  • Apply mathematical tools to some real applications and Engineering problems
  • How to use Scilab advanced primitives in Scilab script to solve the problems
  • Learn the use of LaTeX typesetting system for technical mathematical writing (reports)
  • Be ready for the next ISC4 half-course (2nd part of semester)

The half course is organized into 7 chapters :

  • Chapter 1 : mathematical prerequisites, introduction to Scilab
  • Chapter 2 : polynomial interpolation
  • Chapter 3 : linear approximation techniques
  • Chapter 4 : solution of algebraic equations
  • Chapter 5 : ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
  • Chapter 6 : numerical schemes for differential equations
  • Chapter 7 : differential algebraic equations (DAEs)
